My Perfect PBL! Almost...

Nous saluons le retour to Blog-Mania. French! This week on Blog-Mania Emily to talking to us about PBL. Take. It. Away!

Thanks Blog-Mania dude! This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about design and the big question was; How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product?

First we learned what STEAM stood for.
S for Science
T for Technology
E for Engineering
A for the Arts
and M for Maths
Then we were given challenges. The first to make a chair using newspaper, string and straws that was able to hold a figure made out of multi-link blocks.
Then; make a table that was able to balance MnMs for the team. We were much better at the second challenge because we listened to each others ideas are tried them all.

In Literacy we learned to write up science experiments and to write a technology report using the design process of ask, imagine, plan, create, improve and share.

Our next step was to form teams and ask ourselves the big question again.
How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product? Our aim was to create enough products or experiences and sell it to raise money for charity.

My team made this:
A christmas card with designs like snowman and Christmas Trees. We got the colour on the card by dipping paper into a marble milk and food colouring experiment.

Reflection:

My highlight from this PBL was making all the Christmas Cards. It was really fun because I got to use food colouring and watching all the colours mix.

Next time I would listen to my team members more and try not to be so bossy.

Thanks for watching this episode. Byeeeeeeeee.

My Marketable PBL!

Bine ai revenit to Blog-Mania! Romanian! This week we have Emily talking about her PBL and a little laugh half-way through..... Please enjoy the show! Take it away Emily!

Thanks Blog-Mania peep. This term we have been using S.T.E.A.M in our PBL.

S.T.E.A.M stands for:
Science
Technology
Engineering
Arts
Mathematics

Our driving question is:
How can we use S.T.E.A.M approach to make a marketable product?

First we got into our groups, our cohorts, and talked about what we could make. First we thought about what everyone want and needs. We decided on Christmas Cards as it's the season to be jolly!
I know what your thinking, how are christmas S.T.E.A.M? Well the designs are will a milk and food colouring experiment. We made the experiment as it left as with coloured and marbled milk. we dipped paper in the milk and the paper had this awesome design on it!

And now it's time for our joke break:
A man sued an airline company after it lost his luggage. Sadly, he lost his case!
Wasn't that funny! 😂😆😆

Anyway, back to PBL. Last Friday we had an assembly where we had to share about our product and write a script to say. Our script/advertisement was:
Kade: Hi we are the 3 Nerdz
We are making Christmas cards with milk, dye and dish washing liquid.
Alice:We will be selling them for $1 each and our deal is buy 2 get 1 half price.
Hayun: This is an example of one of our Christmas cards:
We hope to see you at the Market.

I hope you enjoyed your termly update on my PBL! Tell me your predictions for our next PBL in the comments! See you next time! Byeeeeee!

Our PBL Production and Journey This Term!

Welcome back to Blog-Mania! English! Emily is here with her journey with PBL throughout Term 3! Take. It. Away!

Thanks Blog-Mania Guy.  This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about cultural stories and the big question was;

What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?

First we brainstormed what culture is and came up with lots of ideas. Culture is the stories we share, where we are from, our celebrations, the food we eat and the clothes we wear.
Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage. I wrote a post about my family and things we like to do.
In Literacy we read and discussed myths and legends from around the world then we concentrated on Maori legends. I read Maui and The Giant Fish, Maui and the Sun and The Battle of the Mountains. I retold the legend of Atlantis in my own words (which is coming soon to Blog-Mania’s next season).

We made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains. Some students wrote the script, some students took on the job of making all the artwork, some worked hard on organising the music and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and drama.

For our production I contributed by playing the ukulele and the xylophone (also coming to Blog-Mania next season). We learnt multiple songs on the uke like Lava, Fight Song, Mihi Mai Ra and more.

I think the show might impact on others by teaching them how the mountains came to be where they stand today and that Legends don’t just have to be told they can be performed theatrically.

What I learned about working with others was how people act, some can be very funny and some can be very serious, people learn instruments a different speeds. Learning the xylophone was easy but learning the uke presented a challenge. I overcame it though.

Alright I will see you next season for Blog-Mania! What is your favourite myth or legend? Byeeeeeee!

Our Hub Goal!

Tervetuloa takaisin to Blog-Mania! Finnish! Emily is here with an interesting subject, her Hub's goal this term, Respect. Away you go Emily the Weirdo!

Thanks Blog-Mania mate! This term in our Year 5 and 6 hub, we have been focusing on one goal. Respect!

Respect in the classroom, is listening to each other like teachers and peers. Putting our hand up if we want to answer a questions on the floor. Also being silent on the floor while the teacher or someone else is talking. Looking after our own belongings and the school belongings is a must for me because otherwise how could we do our work, with the equipment we need if it's broken and not looked after?

I think personally, the Hub is going well, but sometimes during eating time it gets a bit loud and we forget but the teachers remind us and we're on the right track again.

Thanks for reading, what's your goal right now? Whether it be in school or the playground lt me know in the comments. Thanks and byeeeeeeeee!

Dobrodosli back to Blog-Mania! (Welcome in Croatian!). You guessed it! Emily is here!

Thanks Blog-Mania guy! In reading we have been trying to convince someone to share their cultural stories. We did this after reading an article about how people with Maori heritage. I chose to write my observation in a rap because I find I understand music lyrics better, and the lyrics can mean so much more than words because the could have a different meaning. Here is my rap.
